The Mendocino Complex Fires have impacted tourism at Clear Lake this year, but there's one vacation spot that wants to brighten visitors' stay. The Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast Resort wants you to rest your head in one of their caboose hotel rooms.

The B&B originally opened in 1985. The cabooses were trucked to Clear Lake and cranes were used to put them in place. June and Paul Veja bought the place three years ago.

"Well, the original owners drew the idea up on a pizza box," June said. "They bought decommissioned railroad cabooses at auction."

The cabooses are all authentic Pacific Railroad cars, the insides are not authentic. There is a total of nine cabooses. Each one is decorated with a different theme and is sort of its own time capsule of a different region in the world. Seven of the rooms even come with private jacuzzis.

"Some rooms have mirrors on the ceiling, which is kind of a throwback to the '80s," Paul said.

The cabooses are not exactly kid friendly. The Featherbed Railroad is more of a romantic getaway.

While the wildfires in this area have cast a temporary cloud over the waters at Clear Lake, if you sta at the Featherbed railroad, the water is just fine.
