Hottest temperatures of the year are just around the corner

Summer heat is on the way as a ridge of high pressure brings back highs in the mid 90s.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — On the heels of a cool May and record-setting rain in Downtown Sacramento with 3.42 inches for the month, the heat returns. Sacramento highs are forecast to hit 90 degrees on Saturday and in the mid-80s on Sunday.

Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms are possible around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra foothills through the weekend.

Any thunderstorms that develop can create brief downpours, gusty winds and/or small-sized hail.  If you have outdoor plans, stay inside during thunderstorms and don't return back outside until 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder.
