Video: Person walks behind Baskin-Robbins counter, appears to assault employee in Elk Grove

Video shows the suspect knocking down several cups and spoons while walking away.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — Police are looking for person who went behind the counter at Baskin-Robbins/Togo's store in Elk Grove and assaulted an employee, officials said.

According to Elk Grove Police Department, it was reported around 2 p.m. July 16 at Laguna and Franklin boulevards.

Video provided by Baskin-Robbins shows the person walking behind the counter, approaching an employee and appearing to shove the employee into the wall. The person continues into the back of the store, appears to hit the same employee and knocks several cups and spoons onto the ground while walking away.

“All the things happened too fast. I do not have a moment to have a reaction," said Emily Ruiz, the employee attacked. "I asked, 'How can I help you?,' 'You are going to stay here,' and she (said), 'Do not touch me' and hit me.”

“When he (Ruiz's co-worker) passed and I said, 'What happened?' He just said, 'She wants to hit me, she wants to hit me,'" said Ruiz, who urged her co-worker to keep walking and tried to speak with the customer. "I just asked, 'Ma'am, you can stay here. How can I help you?' And she just said, 'Do not touch me' and I never did."

Ruiz was shocked by the ordeal and has scratch marks on her face and neck. She is seeing the doctor for a follow-up visit to make sure she does not have internal bleeding.

"My co-workers and (I), we are very scared,” Ruiz said.

It's not clear why the suspect assaulted the employee, but police said officers have had prior contact with the person.

Anyone with information about who the suspect is can call the nonemergency number for Elk Grove Police Department.
