TURLOCK, Calif. — After arresting a man for possession of child pornography, Turlock Police are asking any of the students he worked with as a substitute teacher for Stanislaus County to come forward with any information that may help the department's investigation.
Damon Witt, a 48-year-old man from Turlock, was arrested following a tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, according to the police department.
“The Turlock Police Department is thankful for the working relationship we have with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the Stanislaus County Office of Education," said Turlock Police Chief Nino Amirfar. "We will always investigate and arrest anyone found to be in possession of images which exploit children."
Detectives said they served a search warrant for a home in the 900 block of W. Tuolumne Road in Turlock and seized "several electronic devices."
After conducting a forensic examination of the devices, Witt was arrested. Despite being in possession of child pornography, detectives said he did not manufacture the images. The images found were, "images which have been circulating on the internet for some time and are well known to law enforcement nationwide," police said.
Witt was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on a single charge of possession of child pornography.
During the investigation, Turlock Detectives were made aware that Witt has been employed as a substitute teacher in and around Stanislaus County area schools. Because of this access, they are asking that anyone with information that can help the investigation to come forward.
Anyone with tips is asked to call Detective Tim Redd at (209) 664-7325.
