Driver dies after crashing into utility pole in south Sacramento

CHP says the vehicle was so badly damaged and the driver so badly burned that they have not been able to identify them.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A driver died early Tuesday morning after crashing into a pole and their car catching fire in south Sacramento.

According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened around 7:15 a.m. on Franklin Boulevard near Hood Franklin Road.

CHP says its preliminary investigation found the driver of a white Ford sedan was speeding when they left the road, went down an embankment and crashed into a utility pole owned by SMUD.

The sedan caught fire and was fully engulfed by the time the fire department arrived. CHP says the driver was found to be the only person in the vehicle once it was extinguished.

It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. Due to the vehicle’s damage and injuries from the fire, the deceased driver has not been identified yet.
