1 dead after hit-and-run crash in Elk Grove

Authorities describe the suspect’s vehicle as red SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, with front end damage. The driver was last seen driving westbound on Calvine Road.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — One person is dead following a hit-and-run crash in Elk Grove, Thursday evening.

The incident happened a little after 6 p.m. between Brown Road and Calvine Road, according to a public information office with the Elk Grove Police Department. Officers found a "male pedestrian" lying in the roadway.

Police have shut down Waterman Road between Sheldon Road and Brown Road due to the deadly crash.  

Authorities describe the suspect’s vehicle as red SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, with front end damage. The driver was last seen driving north on Waterman Road before turning west on Calvine Road, according to the PIO.

Police have not identified the victim, but describe him as an 85-year-old Caucasian or Hispanic man who lives in the area.  

Traffic detectives and CSI teams are on the scene.
