'Not so Good News': Wine bar to close in midtown Sacramento

The bar said in a statement that it's closing because “the math just isn’t working.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Good News Wine, a wine bar in midtown Sacramento, will close Saturday, Feb. 17.

“Well folks, we’ve got some serious not so Good News this time,” the bar, located near 20th and K streets, announced Monday in an Instagram post.

The establishment will close because “the math just isn’t working,” the bar said in the statement.

“We are sad to announce that we will be closing up shop,” the statement said. “We are beyond grateful for all of you. Thank you to our team, every guest who has visited us and our partners — we are so proud to have been part of creating such a welcoming wine community together.”

The bar’s last day is Saturday, and it will celebrate with bagels, the statement said. Its annual “For the Love of Hot Dogs” event held around Valentine’s Day will still be held in full swing starting 5 p.m. Thursday.

The statement said the bar will hold normal hours through Saturday, meaning it will be open:

  • Thursday: 12-10 p.m.
  • Friday: 12-10 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:30 a.m.-10 p.m.

Good News Wine merchandise is 40% off in store and online.

The store opened in September 2021, and it has no sister locations or plans to reopen elsewhere at this time, the bar told ABC10 Thursday.
