SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The first 80 residents are moving into the newly renovated Capitol Park Hotel in Sacramento as it transitions into a permanent supportive housing complex for formerly homeless residents
City officials say the newly-branded St. Clare has 134 remodeled studio apartments and ground floor retail spaces in two towers. Both were built more than 100 years ago.
Of the new studio apartments, 65 will be reserved for homeless residents with serious mental illness.
The former hotel was refurbished with $20.3 million of city funds and used as an emergency shelter for a brief period since 2019. Mercy Housing has since taken ownership of the building.
“It is gratifying to see these dollars going to work helping some of the most vulnerable people suffering on our streets,” Mayor Steinberg said. “More permanent housing, more shelter, and assertive enforcement of our city ordinances are combining to help more people and reduce the impacts of unsheltered homelessness on our community.”
This is the second permanent supportive housing complex opening in Sacramento recently, with Sacramento Central Studios opening last month with 92 studio apartments.
