MODESTO, Calif. — A Christmas Eve fight between two groups led to a shooting that injured two people, according to the Modesto Police Department.
Police were called to the scene near Mt. Vernon Drive and Prescott Road around 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival they found two adults with gunshot wounds. The victims were taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
Investigators believe the shooting started as a fight between two groups who may have known each other, and described it as an "isolated incident."
"Early indications led responding officers to believe there was an outstanding subject in the area," the Modesto Police Department said in a Facebook post. "A search was conducted and officers quickly learned the subject was able to flee the area prior to their arrival."
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
