MODESTO, Calif. — One person is dead after they were hit by a car in the Modesto area Tuesday evening.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash was reported along South 9th Street, south of River Road, around 6:45 p.m.
According to police, a 2012 Fiat sedan was traveling southbound while a man was lying in the roadway. The car hit him, and the man was found by first responders lying on the roadway. It's not clear why the man was lying in the roadway prior to the crash.
He ultimately died from his injuries. Authorities only described him as a 59-year-old man.
The Fiat driver stayed at the scene. She wasn't hurt, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not under the influence.
