Sacramento Kings hold youth forum with Black. Build. Coalition

The forum was an opportunity for people of all ages, specifically the youth, to come together to discuss the Stephon Clark shooting and how to move forward as a community.

On Friday night, the Sacramento Kings and the Build. Black. Coalition held a youth forum at the South Sacramento Christian Center.

The forum was an opportunity for people of all ages, specifically the youth, to come together to discuss the Stephon Clark shooting and how to move forward as a community.

Berry Accius, founder of 'Voice of the Youth,' helped create the partnership. Other groups in the Build. Black. Coalition include Black Lives Matter, the Greater Sacramento Urban League, and the Sierra Health Foundation.

"It was in the idea of making this more than a moment," said Accius. "This is a movement...and a movement is to get equity for black people here in Sacramento."

Accius made it clear when he said equity.

"Not just equality," he said.

During the first protest at the Golden 1 Center during the Sacramento Kings' game, a team employee asked Accius to come inside. He thought he was about to get arrested.

"I was like 'Ok, I hope I got the bail money ready," said Accius.

Instead, Accius said Kings' owner Vivek Ranadivé asked him for some insight on a statement that would send a strong message - even beyond Sacramento.

Accius also met with Kings's players Vince Carter and Garrett Temple, and former Kings' player Doug Christie.

"[We talked about] what we could do as far as investing," said Accius.

The partnership includes a multi-year plan to support education and job preparation for young people in the Black community. The youth forum was just the beginning.

The partnership will also include an education fund for Stephon Clark's two sons.
