Single vehicle accident leaves one dead in north Sacramento

Rio Linda Boulevard will be closed in both directions for at least two hours according to the fire department.

A vehicle that crashed into a ditch and burst into flames in north Sacramento left one person dead and another hospitalized.

According to California Highway Patrol officer Jenna Berry, a black Lexus was heading northbound on Rio Linda Boulevard, just south of Dry Creek Bridge. Witnesses told CHP that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control and the Lexus went off the roadway. 

The car overturned into a ditch and then caught fire.

 

Chris Harvey with the Sacramento Fire department said that firefighters were able to pull two men from the burning car. Both men were transported to UC Davis Medical Center, where the driver of the Lexus was pronounce dead according to Berry. He was 22, Berry said. 

The passenger, 18, had minor injuries according to Berry.
