STOCKTON, Calif. — President Joe Biden's administration announced Wednesday a new round of funding slated to help schools in Stockton and Modesto.
The Environmental Protection Agency's Clean School Bus Program held a rebate competition awarding nearly $94.9 million from Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to 29 school districts across the nation.
The funding was set aside to purchase more than 283 clean-energy school buses. The Stockton Unified School District and Modesto City Elementary were chosen as recipients of the funding.
Stockton Unified is slated to purchase 20 all-electric school buses using $7.9 million awarded to the district.
Modesto City Elementary was awarded $3.16 million to purchase eight electric buses.
The Stockton Unified School District, the largest school district in San Joaquin County, currently has a fleet of 11 electric school buses.
The cities of Lakeside, Montebello and Compton, all in Southern California, were also selected as funding recipients by the EPA.
