SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gavin Newsom is the newest Governor of California, but to his 2-year-old son, Dutch, he's still "Dad."
During the now-governor's inauguration speech, the younger Newsom made his way on stage, with no speech cues or witty remarks needed, and walked over to his father.
The new governor swooped up his son, who then made himself comfortable idling in his father's arms and more than a bit of his spotlight.
After some collective awing from the audience, Governor Newsom continued his address talking about children and building "one house for one California."
He set down his son who walked away from his father, only to return with a blanket.
"This is exactly how it scripted," remarked Governor Newsom to a chuckling audience.
Dutch may have bobbed in and out of the frame, but he was undeniably the center of attention during his brief appearance.
