SOUTH DAKOTA, USA — The UC Davis Aggies' season will continue another week after defeating the Illinois State Redbirds 42-10 at home in the second round of the FCS Playoffs.
The UC Davis Aggies and South Dakota Coyotes will play each other in the quarterfinals at noon PT Saturday in South Dakota.
The Aggies are coming off a decisive win last week at home against Illinois State, defeating the Redbirds 42-10. The Redbirds were in fifth place in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Last week, UC Davis quarterback Miles Hastings threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns. Aggies star running back Lan Larison scored three touchdowns with 191 total yards (104 rushing, 87 receiving).
UC Davis is 11-2 overall and 7-1 in the Big Sky Conference. The Aggies were undefeated in the conference for the first time in program history since 2021 until they fell short to the Montana State Bobcats on Nov. 16. The South Dakota Coyotes are 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
South Dakota finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference 2023 season, while UC Davis finished fifth in the Big Sky Conference 2023 season. However, both teams are now competing for that quarterfinal spot.
This will be the Aggies' second game against a Missouri Valley Conference team in the past two weeks. The first team was the Illinois State Redbirds.
UC Davis is still ranked No. 5 in the Stats Perform Top 25 Poll and AFCA FCS Coaches Poll. The Coyotes are ranked No. 4 in the Stats Perform Top 25 Poll and No. 3 in the AFCA Coaches Poll.
