SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Weather conditions forecast for the Sacramento region Saturday are much drier than Friday, but we aren't done entirely with the wet weather. Scattered showers will be present in the valley through the daytime, while the Sierra will continue to add to their snowfall totals.
When
Unlike Friday, it won't rain all day. Saturday will not be a total washout, and you don't even necessarily need to reschedule plans. However, scattered valley showers will be present through the afternoon. Showers would only be light and last for a few minutes at a time. An umbrella wouldn't be a bad idea, but again, this won't be a washout.
A rumble of thunder is also possible, in the valley and foothills. Remember to head indoors if you hear thunder
Snow will continue throughout the day with varying levels of intensity. It's not until tonight that the snow tapers off.

Impact
Only minor valley impacts are expected today. Brief interruptions to outdoor plans are possible, but it will not be a washout in the valley. Roads are still wet from yesterday, and any showers will put more water on the roads. Remember to take it slow when there is standing water on the roads and never drive through flooded roads.
Bigger impacts continue in the Sierra, where heavy snow has prompted the need for chain controls across I-80. Roads may improve during the day, but continued snowfall means we won't see great driving conditions at any point until Sunday.

Need
Simply plan for the possibility of light showers and what that might mean for any outdoor events or activities. Rain impacts will be minimal in the valley. However, a weak thunderstorm or two in the valley is possible. If you hear thunder or see lightning, go indoors until the storm passes.
In the Sierra, it's very wintry up there. You need to be dressed for the snow and cold, and to be prepared for difficult driving. Roads are unlikely to make significant improvements until Sunday.
