SACRAMENTO, California —

Late season heat is on its way to Northern California under the influence of a strong high-pressure system setting up over the region.

It has been a warm October so far across Northern California. The average temperature is 1.8 degrees above average so far in October for downtown Sacramento and this number will continue to rise this week.

Sunday will see temperatures in the low to mid-80s, which is slightly above the average high temperature of 80 degrees for October 15.

Monday will see temperatures drop a few degrees thanks to a weak front pushing through Northern California. The only impacts from that front for most of the valley will be slightly cooler temperatures and cloudy conditions on Monday.

Precipitation will be confined to northwestern California and even Redding may see some light rain, but nothing is expected south of that.

By Tuesday, the ridge will begin to build into the region and the warming trend will start. High temperatures will be in the mid-80s on Tuesday and will steadily climb on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday represents the highest probability of reaching 90 degrees in Sacramento

Thursday will be the warmest day of the week and valley locations will have their best chance at reaching 90 degrees. Sacramento currently has a 60% chance of reaching the 90-degree mark on Thursday.

While the valley is seeing temperatures around 90 this week, Sierra locations will see temperatures rise into the 70s, which is also much warmer than average.

Friday will be slightly cooler than Thursday and temperatures will see a sizeable drop in time for the weekend as the ridge evacuates the region.
