Teen accused of DUI, running stop sign in deadly Turlock crash

The teenager was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, but his passenger, a 21-year-old Modesto woman, was dead at the scene.

TURLOCK, Calif. — A 17-year-old was arrested and accused of felony DUI after their passenger died in a crash Sunday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol said the two-vehicle collision was reported around 3:30 p.m. at Fulkerth Road and Faith Home Road. First responders arrived and found two vehicles with major damage.

According to CHP, the Modesto teen was driving a 2013 Buick sedan eastbound along Fulkerth Road toward Faith Home Road when he ran a stop sign and collided with the left side of a cattle trailer being hauled by a 2004 GMC pickup.

The teenager was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, but his passenger, a 21-year-old Modesto woman, was dead at the scene. Police said she wasn't wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened.

No one else in the collision was hurt.

 The 17-year-old was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility on suspicion of felony DUI, felony gross manslaughter and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license.
