SACRAMENTO, Calif. — ABC10 has won two regional 2024 RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards. The prestigious competition recognizes outstanding journalism in broadcast and digital news among 14 geographical regions.
ABC10 competed in Region 2, which includes California, Hawaii, Nevada and Guam, and was the only Sacramento station to receive an award.
ABC10 earned Excellence in Video for ‘Pilgrimage to Manzanar,’ and Sports Reporting for ‘World Dwarf Games: Challenging Stereotypes.’
‘Pilgrimage to Manzanar’ covered a group of former incarcerees with the Florin Chapter of Japanese American Citizens League as they made their annual pilgrimage from Sacramento to the Manzanar National Historic Site, one of the best-preserved internment camps in the U.S. Today, it is a site for people to remember the wrongs the federal government committed towards people of Japanese descent living in America.

‘World Dwarf Games: Challenging Stereotypes’ profiled two brothers, Jude and Hai Okenfuss, after they returned from the World Dwarf Games – an Olympic-style event where people from all over the world with dwarfism compete in a variety of sports. The two brothers went to Germany and received a total of three gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal. It’s a story about how time and dedication will get you respect no matter the outcome.
Regional winners automatically advance to the national Murrow competition. Winners of the national awards will be announced in August.
The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971.
