California Hall of Fame welcomes 10 new inductees

From sports stars and entertainers to politicians and chefs, the California Museum now has over 150 other Californians who "embody the state’s innovative spirit."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom announced 10 new inductees to the California Hall of Fame Thursday. From sports stars and entertainers to politicians and chefs, the California Museum now has over 150 other Californians who "embody the state’s innovative spirit."

Newsom and his wife, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, announced the 17th class of inductees through a video earlier this week.

"Each California Hall of Fame inductee is uniquely California and through their vision, their drive their perseverance they've set themselves apart and profoundly shaped the nation and the world," said Newsom.

"The California Hall of Fame is a special opportunity to honor trailblazers who embody the spirit of our Golden State, breaking down barriers, challenging the status quo and redefining success," said Siebel Newsom.

  • Helene An: Master chef and the Mother of Fusion Cuisine
  • Willie L. Brown, Jr.: History-making Mayor of San Francisco and Speaker of the California Assembly
  • Vinton G. Cerf: Renowned computer scientist and a Father of the Internet
  • Ava DuVernay: Visionary storyteller and award-winning filmmaker
  • The Go-Go’s: Chart-topping all-female pop punk band
  • Thelton E. Henderson: Revered federal judge and civil rights leader
  • Los Lobos: Iconic Chicano rock band
  • Cheryl Miller: Legendary basketball player and sports broadcaster
  • Leon E. Panetta: Former U.S. Secretary of Defense and dedicated public servant
  • Brenda Way: Celebrated artistic director and choreographer
