ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Placer County is welcoming two sporting events this weekend, bringing thousands of athletes, and their fans to the area.
The Northern California Volleyball Association's (NCVA) 17th annual Boys Far Western Junior National tournament is being held this weekend in Roseville. It features some of the best club teams and players with a bid for the USA Volleyball national championship this summer in Dallas on the line.
The event was expected to bring more than 5,000 athletes and fans, and provide a $1 million spike in revenue for the region, according to Placer Valley Tourism.
"Watch these guys, you'll you'll be amazed at how high they jump how hard they hit," said Tom Donaghy, with the NCVA.
The championship games will be held Sunday afternoon at the Roebbelen Center, 700 Event Center Drive in Roseville.
Meanwhile, the Cyclocross District Championship is happening in Rocklin.
The sport features challenging steeplechase-like bike races that include numerous obstacles and encourages fans to ring cowbells and hand out candy, drinks or even dollar bills.
"Cyclocross, I would say, is the most fun atmosphere the most fun discipline of bike racing and riding," said Clint Claassen, Executive Director of Clipped In For Life and race director.
The championship starts 9 a.m. Sunday, with the last race at 2:30 p.m. at the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area, 4201 Midas Ave. in Rocklin. The best finishers qualify for the national championship.
Both events are said to boost the local economy and bring sports fans a fun weekend, rain or shine.
