Here's how you can save money at the California State Fair in Sacramento

On Tuesdays kids 12 years old and under can get into the fair for free. Carnival rides are only $2 each for everyone too.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California State Fair runs from July 12 to July 28 at Cal Expo in Sacramento. There's something for everyone to enjoy, like carnival rides, games, food, exhibits, concerts and more. But you don't have to break the bank to have fun at the fair.

There are ways people can save big on admissions, rides, and even the fair food.

For starters, you might want to consider going to the fair on Tuesdays for Kids Free Day. Every Tuesday, kids 12 years old and under can get into the fair for free. On top of that, carnival rides are only $2 each for everyone on Tuesdays.

The regular admission price for adults is $16. You can't forget about parking at Cal Expo too. The price for a one-day parking pass at Cal Expo is $17.

Admission for kids between the ages of 5 and 12 is $10. Admission for seniors, ages 62 and up, is $12. But older adults can save $2 by going to the fair on Fridays. That's because every Friday at the fair is considered Senior Savings Day until 8:00 p.m. Seniors only pay $10.

The fair is also offering a program called Read to Ride to help families save money. It's for students from kindergarten through eighth grade. If students read two books, write a summary, and bring a completed form to the fair, they get two free rides and one monorail ticket.

If you're really just going to the fair for the food, you might want to consider going on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. That's when every vendor will have at least one item for only $4.

Military, Veteran and First Responder Appreciation Day will be held at the state fair on July 24 only. It focuses most on paying gratitude and celebrating the individuals and organizations that keep our country and communities safe.

The fair is inviting active duty, reserve and veteran personnel from all branches of the military as well as active members of law enforcement, firefighters and first responder units to enjoy free admission to the fair. Active duty military spouses and dependents are also included in free admission on this special day.
