SACRAMENTO, Calif — A movie that brought Hollywood to Sacramento is slated for an Aug. 8, 2025 release date, as reported by SFGATE.
A representative for Warner Brothers told SFGATE that the movie was slated to open in IMAX theaters at that time.
The movie was shot in parts of Northern California, including Stockton and Sacramento.
Some of the scenes included action scenes with simulated gunfire, car chases, crashes and helicopter work. It's one of the most expensive movies to have ever been shot in Sacramento.
The unnamed movie has a working title of "BC Project." It's directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall and more.
Anderson has 11 Oscar nominations and a Cannes Film Festival win for "Punch-Drunk Love." His other notable films include "Boogie Nights," "Magnolia" and "There Will Be Blood." His latest film "Licorice Pizza" was nominated for multiple Oscars at the 94th Academy Awards.
Sacramento's Film and Media Office said the city saw $5.3 million in local spending tied to the Warner Bros. production. The single-film production more than doubled the economic impact of all film productions from last year.
Of the millions spent during the film's production in Sacramento, $915,018 went to hotel expenditures equating to almost 4,000 hotel stays.
