ORANGEVALE, Calif. — Sacramento Metro Fire crews partnered up with other agencies Saturday afternoon to rescue a baby eagle that fell from it's nest.
The bird toppled out of its nest around 3:42 p.m. in Orangevale along Snowberry Way near Lake Natoma, according to fire officials.
Fire crews worked alongside State Park, Fish and Game, Wildlife Encounters and Sierra Pacific Tree Services officials to get the baby bird down from the tree safely.
Bald eagles, scientifically known as Haliaeetus leucocephalus, are the national bird of the United States of America. They're one of North America's largest birds, weighing in at about eight to 14 pounds and having a wingspan of six to eight feet long, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
