Jelly Belly is throwing its hat into the ring of the seltzer craze with the launch of Jelly Belly Sparkling Water. But don’t look for them to be in California grocery stores anytime soon.
In early January 2020, the company formed the Joffer Beverage Company and began to market the creation of canned, jelly bean-flavored seltzer drinks with just carbonated water and natural flavors as the only two ingredients used, the company said. They are also said to have zero sugars, zero sweeteners, and zero calories.
"The Jelly Belly brand promises fun, flavor and quality — characteristics that we believe sparkling water drinkers are looking for — and our product delivers perfectly on that promise," said Justin Joffer, a co-founder of Joffer Beverage Company. "We want to bring excitement to the sparkling water category through unique and intense flavor experiences."
The grocery chain “Hy-Vee” will be the first to get the drink. Unfortunately, none of the chain’s 265 stores are located in California. You can, however, try them out if you want to make the trek to the factory store in Fairfield.
ABC10 reached out to the company to ask if the drinks will ever be available at convenience stores in the state. This was their response:
"Currently, Hy-Vee is the first U.S. market in-store retail launch partner for Jelly Belly Sparkling Water. However, Joffer Beverage Company is considering other partnership opportunities in additional markets throughout the U.S. You can additionally purchase Jelly Belly Sparkling Waters at the Jelly Belly factory store in Fairfield, CA."
Beginning at 5 p.m. on January 22, the drinks started to become available for purchase online at jellybelly.com, the company said.
Eight flavors will be included in the rollout: French Vanilla, Lemon Lime, Orange Sherbet, Piña Colada, Pink Grapefruit, Tangerine, Very Cherry and Watermelon. But with more than 100 flavors of Jelly Belly jelly beans, it is highly likely that more soda flavors will be adapted in time.
Jelly Belly Sparkling Water will come in packages of eight 12-ounce cans.
