Hughson Christmas parade canceled after football team makes playoff game

The Hughson Chamber of Commerce said there were concerns of traffic impacts with both the parade and the playoff game for the high school football team.

HUGHSON, Calif. — The Hughson Christmas parade was canceled due to traffic concerns stemming from both the parade and an upcoming high school football game.

The parade was scheduled for Dec. 2, with the parade starting around 5:30 p.m. However, the date coincided with a hometown showdown between the Hughson High School Huskies and the Palma High School Chieftains. The game is part of the 2023 CIF State Football Championship playoffs.

With both events expected to cause a lot of traffic in town, the Hughson Chamber of Commerce canceled the holiday parade.

They made the announcement on their Facebook page.

"With the excitement of the Hughson Huskies team making a playoff game, comes the additional traffic to downtown. Due to the concerns of the additional traffic, its impact on residential area when combined with the parade route, and safety, we have made the decision to cancel the parade," the Chamber of Commerce said.

However, "Shop the Block" will still continue. Vendors will be set up on 4th Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Santa's  Workshop, at the senior center, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
