Sacramento, CA – ABC10, in partnership with SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union and Sacramento State’s College of Education, is proud to announce Anthony Ferraro of American Lakes Elementary School in Natomas as Teacher of the Month for April 2024. In place for 20+ years, Teacher of the Month is one of ABC10’s signature community enrichment initiatives designed to highlight local teachers making a difference in the lives of their students and families.
After being interviewed recently by ABC10’s Mark S. Allen, a seven-time Emmy Award winning member of the news team, an uplifting story about Mr. Ferraro will air multiple times throughout the month of April.
With 16 years of teaching experience – 10 of which as a 3rd grade teacher at American Lakes School in the Natomas Unified School District – Mr. Ferraro is known for going above and beyond simply teaching. He also serves as a mentor for many students at the school and volunteers his time to handle all of the school's media, music program, and assemblies.
When asked about why teachers matter, Mr. Ferraro replied: “First, teachers can help shape the lives of students who are struggling in life. There are many students who have trauma in their lives. Teachers can help be that positive light in the students' lives. Teachers can help them realize their potential. Some students do not have a father figure at home and I become that father in their lives. There are many times where students need someone to listen and teachers can be that person. Teachers can bring happiness to the lives of students and most importantly, teachers can provide a safe environment for students to learn and grow.”
As part of being recognized as Teacher of the Month, Mr. Ferraro will receive $1,000 from SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union plus will be eligible for the title of ABC10’s Esquire IMAX Teacher of the Year – that includes a $5,000 prize – which will be announced at a special awards ceremony.
