Sacramento, CA – ABC10, in partnership with SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union and Sacramento State’s College of Education, is proud to announce Candace Beam of Joseph Sims Elementary School in Elk Grove as Teacher of the Month for July 2024. In place for 20+ years, Teacher of the Month is one of ABC10’s signature community enrichment initiatives designed to highlight local teachers making a difference in the lives of their students and families.
After being interviewed recently by ABC10’s Mark S. Allen, a seven-time Emmy Award winning member of the news team, an uplifting story about Ms. Beam will air multiple times throughout the month of July.
With 16 years of teaching experience and known as someone who sees the unique potential in each of her students, Ms. Beam currently teaches all subjects for 6th graders at Joseph Sim Elementary School. Recovering from a spinal injury last year and utilizing a wheelchair during her journey to regain the use of her legs, Ms. Beam is a daily inspiration for her students and her perseverance, strength, and determination shine through every day.
When asked what advice she has for parents, Ms. Beam replied: “We are all in this together and we want to work with you to help your child be successful. Academically, read, read, and read some more. Reading is the key to success in all subjects and if we can get students excited about reading it will empower them to take ownership of their learning.”
As part of being recognized as Teacher of the Month, Mrs. Beam will receive $1,000 from SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union plus will be eligible for the title of ABC10’s Esquire IMAX Teacher of the Year – that includes a $5,000 prize – which will be announced at a special awards ceremony next year.
