SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Was your April PG&E bill much lower than you were expecting? If so, it’s likely because of the ‘California Climate Credit.’
The California Climate Credit is distributed to PG&E customers as directed by the California Public Utilities Commission. It’s from the state’s Cap-and-Trade program requiring places like power plants and fuel providers to buy carbon pollution allowances due to their greenhouse gas emissions.
Households with an electric account will receive a credit of $55.17, while households with a gas account will receive $85.46. That means a credit of $140.63 for people with both gas and electricity through PG&E.
Residential customers receive electric credits twice a year in April and October, while natural gas credits only come in April.
