FED-ED & LWA: Top unemployment questions and answers | Dollars and Sense

Here at ABC10, we stand for you, and the Dollars and Sense team is answering your top questions about FED-ED extensions and LWA payments.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — As our communities struggle to reopen, dollars are often short, and making sense of it all can seem impossible. But here at ABC10, we stand for you, and we are here to help.

When it comes to your finances, no concern is too big or too small. Here are the top questions the Dollars and Sense team has received this week:

If my unemployment balance reaches zero by the end of the year, will I be qualified for extended benefits?

Possibly, thanks to the Federal-State Extended Duration (FED-ED) extension that provides up to 20 weeks of additional benefits for folks that have used all of their unemployment benefits. There are eligibility requirements, and EDD should let you know if you qualify. A friendly reminder that PEUC and PUA programs are scheduled to end on December 26, 2020, in California.

Why haven't I received all my lost wages assistance (LWA) payments?

Right now, the EDD is paying out the 6th and final week of payments of LWA. If you haven't received LWA payments, you'll want to connect with EDD to figure out why.

Will I receive additional $300 LWA payments?

Unless Congress passes a new stimulus program, this is the end for the $300 payments. This means the maximum amount of money an unemployed person in California can receive is $450 a week.
