1 killed, 2 injured in alleged DUI collision on HW-12 near Mokelumne River Bridge

Authorities say two passengers in the back of the vehicle weren't wearing seatbelts when the force of the collision ejected them from the vehicle on Sunday.

ISLETON, Calif. — One person has been booked into San Joaquin County jail after an alleged DUI collision on Highway 12 that left one person dead.

Authorities arrested Ainise Taimani, 19 of Antioch.

Stockton CHP officers went to Highway 12 east of the Mokelumne River Bridge for the fatal crash on May 26 around 4 a.m.

According to CHP, Taimani was driving a 2012 Chevrolet westbound on HW-12 at an undetermined speed.

Police said that the vehicle was approaching a bridge when Taimani allowed the vehicle to leave the roadway and go along the north shoulder, where it eventually hit a lamp post.

The force of the collision caused two passengers in the backseat to be ejected from the vehicle. According to authorities, they were not wearing seat belts.

One had fatal injuries while the other suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Taimani was treated for minor injuries.

Authorities determined Taimani to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested her.
