SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Drivers across the nation, especially in California, are feeling the spike in gas prices.
According to AAA, the national average for regular unleaded gas is now at $2.76 a gallon, and the average price for gas in California is $3.87.
With the extensive seasonal refinery maintenance in the region, gasoline prices saw a nearly 50-cents-per-gallon average rise in the state in just the last month, according to GasBuddy.
Even though gas prices have risen significantly you can still find ways to save. Here are a few recommendations:
- Plan what day you visit the pump: Monday mornings are the best time to fill up. This is when gas stations are at their quietest and prices are at their lowest. According to GasBuddy, Fridays are the most expensive day to fill up.
- Check your tire pressure: Low pressure reduces fuel economy. Most cars have the recommended tire pressure listed on a sticker inside the driver's door. If you can't find that, it should be listed in your owner's manual.
- Download a fuel finder app: GasBuddy, Gas Guru & Waze are all compatible with IOS & Android.
- Pay cash: This will help avoid interest rates and additional fees associated with the card use. Some gas stations charge different prices for cash and card uses, based on fees they have to pay when you use your card.
- Slow down: The faster you drive, the more fuel you're using.
