Auburn Area California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a freeway shooting that temporarily shutdown a part of westbound I-80 early Sunday morning.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Authorities are investigating a freeway shooting that temporarily shutdown certain parts of westbound I-80 traffic lanes in the Roseville area.

Auburn Area California Highway Patrol officers responded to a freeway shooting on westbound I-80 at Douglas Boulevard at around 1:15 a.m. on March 17.

Officers that arrived were advised that the driver of a white 2017 Chevrolet Corvette was shot multiple times by the occupants of what witnesses describe as a small white SUV type vehicle.

The Corvette driver, identified as a 33-year-old male from San Pablo, was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with life threatening injuries. At this time, his condition is unknown.

Due to the investigation, westbound I-80 was shut down from Eureka Road to Douglas Boulevard for about 5 hours, from 1:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.

A female in the front passenger side of the Corvette did not sustain any gunshot wounds, police say.
