Several hundred politicians, students, and others attended the event. This year is even more special because California’s Department of Agriculture is celebrating 100 years since it was founded.

Woodland High School student Kimberly Velasquez is a member of Woodland High School’s Future Farmers of America (FFA). Students with FFA and other student agriculture organizations like 4H attended the event from across the state.

“It’s really nice to see everything agriculture-related and it kind of reminds students what possibilities they have in FFA and other ag-related organizations,” Velasquez said.

She hopes to one day pursue a career in the agriculture industry.

California’s agriculture industry raked in more than $50 billion in 2017, according to the state Department of Food and Agriculture.
