Say 'hello': New York Times Best Selling author Eileen Goudge moves to Sacramento

Eileen Goudge discusses the California origins of her new book, "All They Need to Know."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — New York Times Best Selling author Eileen Goudge has recently moved back to the state she was born and raised in, coming in from New York and settling down in Sacramento.

As a homecoming of sorts, she'll be holding a signing for her book "All They Need to Know" at the East Village Bookshop at 10:30 a.m. on Sat, Oct 5.

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. "All They Need to Know" was the cause for Goudge's move to the Golden State. She explained to ABC10's Mark S. Allen that she had stayed in Sacramento while doing research on the Gold Country area for her book. While in California, she connected with her character and her childhood.

"My character, the character in the book, comes to the Gold Country and that's where my family used to vacation when I was growing up," she said. "My dad told stories around the campfire at night and that's where my whole storytelling has came from, my dad telling these made up stories to his six children."

  2. The book follows a woman named Kyra Smith as she runs away from her abusive husband and starts a new life in the town of Gold Creek. It's not all smiles for Kyra, however.

"Have I got a story for you," Goudge said. "Much more happens and it ends up with a chase, a run for her life while her ex husband is chasing her through the woods on a snowy night. I'll leave you with that. You'll enjoy the rest, hopefully."

  3. Goudge has simple but sound advice for up-and-coming authors who may need it:

"For up and coming authors, it sounds like the most basic advice in the world but just write," she said. "Write something every single day, even if it's two paragraphs, even if it's a blog post. Just keep going. Write every single day."
