Hummingbird Theatre Company performs 'Blithe Spirit' in Rancho Cordova

'Blithe Spirit' follows Charles Condomine as he is haunted by his late wife Elvira after a séance gone wrong. Why is she haunting him? He has a new wife.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — The Hummingbird Theatre Company is currently performing the play "Blithe Spirit," a dark comedy about a man named Charles Condomine (played by Doug Wilcox) who can see the ghost of his late wife Elvira (Katie Smith-Induni) as she tries to ruin his current marriage.

ABC10's Mark S. Allen went to the Cal Cap Black Box Theater in Rancho Cordova to see how their relationship holds up.

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. There are three upcoming performances. There will be two shows at 7:30 p.m. Fri, Nov 15 and Sat, Nov 16, as well as a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sun, Nov 17. Those who plan on attending the Sunday show should act fast, though.

"We still have lots of seats for Friday and Saturday," said Chris Cay Stewart, who plays Madame Arcati in the play. "Not so many for Sunday but good seats."

  2. There are two movies based on "Blithe Spirit," both sharing the title name. The first movie was released in 1945 and features classic actors Rex Harrison, Margaret Rutherford, Kay Hammond and Constance Cummings. The second movie was much more recent, having been released in 2020. That adaptation featured actors Judy Dench, Dan Stevens, Leslie Mann and Isla Fisher.

  3. The Hummingbird Theatre Company is celebrating seven years in business! The theatre company was first opened in 2017. Since opening, its main goal has been "to bring quality Performing Arts Theatre performances to the community of Sacramento."
