Lupita Nyong'o gets animated as she talks about 'The Wild Robot'

Mark S. Allen gets the scoop on "The Wild Robot" from Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o.

"The Wild Robot" is an upcoming movie about a robot named Roz who ends up stranded on an uninhabited island with only animals on it. Mark S. Allen spoke with the voice actress for Roz, Academy Award and Daytime Emmy Award-winning Lupita Nyong'o.

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. "The Wild Robot" was written and directed by Chris Sanders, who is most famous for writing and directing movies such as DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon" and Disney's "Lilo & Stitch."

  2. The cast features various vocal talent alongside Nyong'o. Actors in the movie include Pedro Pascal, Catherine O'Hara, Bill Nighy, Kit Conner, Stephanie Hsu, Ving Rhames, and Mark Hamil.

  3. While Nyong'o can mainly be seen in live-action TV and film, she is no stranger to voice acting. She played Maz Kanata in the animated series "Star Wars: Forces of Destiny," as well as Asha in "Big Mouth" and "Human Resources."

"It is work and it is its own special kind of challenge," Nyong'o told Mark when asked about the differences when performing for live-action or animated movies.

"Here the performance of Roz is built by a number of elements, voice being one of them but animation being such a huge part of it. Then there is the sound design and the composition of the music and all these elements dance together to make this story what it is," Nyong'o said. "I think animation is a really true exhibit of the group effort it takes to make movies and it was really beautiful to experience everybody's work for the first time in that way."
