Majesty Ballet Theater Company to perform 'An American Nutcracker' in Vacaville

The Majesty Ballet Theater Company is performing a Christmas classic... with an American twist!

VACAVILLE, Calif. — The Majesty Ballet Theater Company will perform the classic Tchaikovsky ballet "The Nutcracker" in Vacaville from Fri, Dec 6 to Sun, Dec 8.  The show has a twist on the traditional version. ABC10's Mark S. Allen went out to Vacaville to see what makes the show "An American Nutcracker."

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. For the most part, "An American Nutcracker" is the same as the original. The big differences come from the story's setting and costumes.

"The music is the same, beautiful choreography," explained Cassy Kamakeeaina, the Artistic Director for the Majesty Ballet Theater Company and the director and choreographer for 'An American Nutcracker.' [It's] the same as 'Nutcracker' but we have a 40s theme, mostly for the party scene because that's where you see the time scene and the costuming."

  2. All performers in the show and dancers in the Majesty Ballet Theater Company are from Vacaville, with some starting out at the dance company as young as three years old.

"We are very proud of the fact we don't have to hire out dancers. They're all home-grown," said Kamakeeaina. "We're very proud to have home-grown talent here."

Kamakeeaina said all dancers with the studio are trained at the Royal School of Ballet in Vacaville.

  3. Performances of "An American Nutcracker" have sold out in Vacaville in past years. Because of this, it is suggested that those who want to attend but their tickets as soon as possible.

Tickets for four separate shows can be purchased through SimpleTix.com or through the Majesty Ballet Theater Company's website.
