Rocklin neighborhood dazzles with over 30 years of holiday light tradition

31 years ago, residents of Rocklin's Pebble Creek Drive began putting up Christmas light displays. Now, the tradition has taken on a life of its own.

ROCKLIN, Calif. — Over 30 years ago, the Rocklin residents living on Pebble Creek Drive began making large and flashy Christmas displays for entire families to enjoy during the holidays. Now, the yearly tradition continues throughout the entire neighborhood.

ABC10's Mark S. Allen went to Pebble Creek to meet up with a new couple living on the street and the original tradition's founder, Steve Givens.

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. Givens founded the event for a very simple but important reason: his love for the holidays.

"Just out of the desire to decorate and enjoy just being in the moment with everybody at Christmas time," he explained to Mark.

Givens also had advice for those wanting to visit the lit-up neighborhood.

"Take your time. Really spend the time to enjoy it. Walk if you can and don't be in a hurry. Christmas is the best time of year. Enjoy it."

  2.  Some people move to the neighborhood for the lights.  Dan and Jennifer Gamba said knew what they were getting into.

"We made it our own. We had a bunch of stuff and then Dan went and made a ton," said Jennifer. "He's a teacher at Sylvan Middle School, so he had his students help him make new ones. So we have a few new cutouts that they painted and made themselves. We've added a lot."

  3. If the promise of thousands of lights doesn't tempt people to visit the miniature holiday town, a 100-foot-tall Christmas tree might. According to Givens, he has decorated two gigantic trees, lights and all.

"There's 112 [lights] on both trees total," he claimed. "The trees just are really incredible with the decorations that are on them like that."
