Sacramento Ballet performs Michael Pink's 'Dracula' for Halloween weekend

The Sacramento Ballet will be performing Michael Pink's 'Dracula,' a show based off the Bram Stoker novel.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In 1897, Bram Stoker wrote a novel that changed the perception of the modern-day vampire.

Nearly 100 years later, dance choreographer Michael Pink reinvented "Dracula" for the stage in 1996. Now, around 28 years later, the Sacramento Ballet will be bringing his work to life for the Halloween weekend.

ABC10's Mark S. Allen caught the stars of the show after a dress rehearsal in order to learn more.

THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. According to Anthony Krutzkamp, the Artist Director for the Sacramento Ballet, this performance of "Dracula" features the one Dracula that stays the closest to the book. While there have been various interpretations of Dracula over the years, the original Dracula was more ghoulish than most, with the book describing him as an elderly man with pointed ears, sharp teeth and nails, and a long white mustache.

  2. The Sacramento Ballet is celebrating its 70th anniversary! First opening in 1954, the ballet has been a key player in Sacramento's arts community. For its 70th anniversary season, the Sacramento Ballet will also be performing the classic "Nutcracker" and the world premiere of Young Soon Hue's "Romeo and Juliet."
