Revamped ride 'Tiana's Bayou Adventure' opens at Disneyland on Friday

Built off the bones of Splash Mountain, "Tiana's Bayou Adventure" is a musical log flume ride that brings riders into the heart of New Orleans.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — "Tiana's Bayou Adventure," a log flume coaster based on the 2009 movie "The Princess and the Frog," is opening to the public at Disneyland on Friday!

In order to celebrate, ABC10's Mark S. Allen went a day ahead of the crowds for a preview of the water ride.

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. "Tiana's Bayou Adventure" was once the world-famous Disneyland ride "Splash Mountain." In 2020, following years of maintenance issues, it was announced that the original 1989 "Splash Mountain" coaster would be taken down and transformed into a "The Princess and the Frog" themed ride.

"Splash Mountain" isn't dead, though. The ride can still be found at Tokyo Disneyland, with few differences from the original California version.

  2. The ride has a soundtrack with familiar and new songs, taking "Down in New Orleans" and "Almost There" directly from "The Princess and the Frog." Meanwhile, songs such as "Special Spice" are new to the ride.

"It features great songs from the original film, as well as some new favorites as well," said Whitney Urien, who manages Disneyland Food and Beverages. "I know everybody who is going to experience this ride is going to have a great time. They are going to get wet though."

  3. "Tiana's Bayou Adventure" isn't the only piece of New Orleans coming to Disneyland. Restaurant Tiana's Palace and gift shop Eudora's Chic Boutique will also be joining the California theme park.

"We wouldn't be in New Orleans without amazing food," Urien explained. "We have Tiana's Palace, which has great New Orleans favorites. Of course, our traditional Mickey Beignets, which are a huge favorite with our guests, and then we also have Tiana's Gumbo, Muffuletta Sandwiches, and Po' Boys, which are known all through New Orleans as well."

"We have Eudora's Chic Boutique, which is a great merchandise location right around the corner from [Tiana's] restaurant, Tiana's Palace," she continued. "There you are going to be able to find all of her secret seasonings and a lot of great things that pay homage to the City of New Orleans as well."
