SACRAMENTO, Calif. — We helped make an Oak Park girl's golfing wish come true on the ABC10 Morning News today.
I surprised 11-year-old Kylie Saelao at her home in Sacramento's Oak Park neighborhood. Kylie received $500 to be used on golf and also got lessons from Bing Maloney Golf Course professional Willie Toney.
Hopefully, it sets in motion a long golf career because she wants to be a professional golfer.
It all came about because the new Disney movie "Wish" is granting wishes to people across the country to promote the film.
Kylie's family helped with the surprise telling her we were there to talk about gratitude before Thanksgiving.
"I'm grateful for my family, my friends, the roof over my head and my dog George," Kylie said.
Here are 3 things I think you should know:
- Willie Toney is paying it forward. He started his career by selling lost balls to golfers. "I wanted to be a golf professional and I happen to be one now," Toney said. "My journey was, I started at Bing Maloney. I used to sell golf balls to the guys that hit them over the fence. The pro I tried to sell golf balls back to, says 'I get balls for free... do you want a real job?' So he gave me a job at the golf course."
- "Wish" is an animated movie that stars Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine and Alan Tudyk.
- "Wish" opens in theatres on Tuesday across the Sacramento region.
