MODESTO, Calif. — A corn maze is being created in honor of fallen Newman Police Cpl. Ronil Singh in Modesto this fall.
Seeds were planted at Dutch Hollow Farms off of Oakdale Road.
"I think it's just a great opportunity for the entire community to come together," said John Bos.
For Bos, honoring Singh was a no-brainer.
"[Law enforcement officers] could pick any other job in this planet than risking their lives, and their family, the whole nine yards. To me, it's a no-brainer that they're honored here at our corn maze," he said.
Bos owns Dutch Hollow Farms in Modesto, just a town over from Newman, where Singh was shot and killed during a traffic stop the day after Christmas 2018, leaving behind his wife, his one-year-old son and his police K9 Sam.
"He was so nearly dearly loved in this community. We thought, what a better way to honor him, than putting him out on our corn maze," he said.
Dutch Hollow Farms has been creating unique corn mazes for the past five years, highlighting Steph Curry and Kevin Durant from the Golden State Warriors, honoring firefighters and even showcasing livestock.
After asking his social media followers for ideas this year, seeds were planted for the corn maze honoring Singh.
"It will bring him back to life, even just for the memory of him, and they'll see what a man he was," he said.
And Singh isn't the only one being honored. His K9 Sam, who was with him the night he was killed, will be right next to him in the maze.
"It will blow your minds on how much it looks exactly like him and his dog," he said.
The corn maze at Dutch Hollow Farms is set to open to the public at the end of September. They plan to hold a ceremony on opening day with family and friends of Singh.
