Man arrested after Tuolumne County shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

Deputies responded to reports of a man shot at a home and when they were on the way more shots were reported.

TUOLUMNE COUNTY, Calif. — A Tuolumne County man is facing charges after a Wednesday night shooting left one man dead and a second person injured.

According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shooting on Long Barn Road around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office says more gunshots and a second victim was reported while deputies were on the way. Upon arrival, multiple people were ordered out of the home, including suspect 69-year-old James West.

Deputies entered the home and found one man dead. A second person with gunshot wounds was airlifted.

West was detained and arrested. He was booked into the Dambacher Detention Center Thursday morning on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The man he’s accused of killing was identified as 62-year-old Joseph Barbalinardo Jr.

The shooting remains under investigation.
