SACRAMENTO, Calif — One person is dead after a wrong-way crash along Capital City Freeway in Sacramento Sunday night.
The California Highway Patrol said the collision was reported around 9:15 p.m. along Capital City Freeway, not far from Exposition Boulevard.
California Highway Patrol said a Nissan Altima was hit by a Toyota Corolla that was driving southbound in the northbound lanes. The Nissan was pushed into the center median.
The Nissan driver was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, but the female passenger died. Her identity hasn't been released, but officers said she was in her late 20s.
California Highway Patrol said in the initial release the Corolla rear-ended the Nissan but in an update Monday, said that it was a wrong-way crash.
The driver of the Corolla left the area and was later found at a Courtyard Marriott on Tribute Road and arrested on suspicion of DUI.
No additional details surrounding the crash have been released at this time.
