10th grader stabbed at Mira Loma High School in Arden-Arcade

"Seeing him like bleed out in his shirt, knowing that my friend was stabbed by someone. It's really scary."

ARDEN-ARCADE, Calif. — A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest at Mira Loma High School Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, the teenager was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Officials said the stabbing was reported just before 4 p.m. in front of the school.

"Seeing him like bleed out in his shirt, knowing that my friend was stabbed by someone. It's really scary," said Paloma Pullins.

Pullins said she was about to walk to dance practice when she saw her 16-year-old friend who was suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

"For a while, he was just with his friends after being stabbed. And I feel like that's really scary. Like, no one was there to help him," Pullins said.

The San Juan Unified School District said the victim is a 10th-grade student at the high school.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said it appears there was some kind of argument that led to the fight before the stabbing. However, it's still unclear what led up to the stabbing and the circumstances surrounding it.

Gandhi also said the school does not have a resource officer and incidents like these don't happen often at the school.

However, Pullins said she'd like to see some school staff stick around even after school hours.

"I feel like having more admin out after school would definitely be safer. Because kids fight after school and things happen like this after school because there's no admin out here watching us," Pullins said.

After getting accounts from witnesses, one suspect was detained in a potentially related car. Investigators are still working to figure out whether there are any other suspects in the stabbing.
