16-year-old stabbed at Mira Loma High School in Arden-Arcade

Officials said the stabbing happened in front of the school.

ARDEN-ARCADE, Calif. — A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest at Mira Loma High School Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, the teenager is expected to survive. He was taken to the hospital and described as conscious and responsive. It's not clear whether he is a student or not.

Officials said the stabbing happened in front of the school. It was reported just before 4 p.m.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said it appears there was some kind of argument that led to the fight before the stabbing. However, it's still unclear what led up to the stabbing and the circumstances surrounding it.

One person was detained as a suspect in a possibly related vehicle after accounts from witnesses, deputies said.

Investigators are currently working to figure out whether there are any other suspects in the stabbing
