SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — A man was arrested in Siskiyou County on suspicion of possessing and transporting 92 trash bags filled with more than 2,000 pounds of illegal marijuana for sale, deputies said Wednesday.
Oscar Gilbert Segura, 22, of Long Beach, was allegedly speeding in a U-Haul with Arizona license plates around the Abrams Lake area when a Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office deputy did a traffic stop, according to a sheriff's office news release.
Upon approach, the deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to the news release.
“When asked if he had marijuana in the U-Haul, the driver… stated that he did, and a subsequent search revealed the back of the U-Haul to be filled with black trash bags of marijuana,” the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Law enforcement alleges neither the bags of marijuana nor Segura had the necessary Marijuana Enforcement Tracking Reporting Compliance (METRC) tag required for the transportation and sale of legal marijuana in California.
Segura was then arrested on suspicion of possessing and transporting illegal marijuana for sale, deputies said. In total, about 92 bags of marijuana were allegedly recovered weighing 2,013 pounds.
