PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — A total of five people were arrested after a carjacking and chase spanning multiple counties Friday morning.
The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office says it was contacted around 5:15 a.m. that a vehicle allegedly taken in an armed carjacking in Sacramento County was scanned by a Grass Valley license plate camera.
The Grass Valley Police Department, California Highway Patrol and Nevada County deputies responded. Grass Valley police saw the vehicle going east on Highway 174 after failing to yield.
A chase started but officers lost sight of the vehicle around 5:37 a.m.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office joined near Colfax and Nevada County deputies saw the vehicle going east near the Bear River Bridge. Deputies started chasing the vehicle again into Placer County and the driver crashed on South Auburn Road near Placer Hills Road.
The five people inside the vehicle got out and tried to run — four of them were detained. The fifth person, identified as 18-year-old Monroe Hubbert, ran into the woods but was tracked by a drone and K-9 unit.
All five were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Hubbert and 19-year-old Joshua Sisk will be booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. The three others, all unidentified minors, will be booked into Placer County juvenile hall.
