4 dead in suspected drug overdose at South Lake Tahoe home

The city says three men and one woman died at a home on Roger Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Four people are dead after a suspected drug overdose at a home in South Lake Tahoe.

According to the city of South Lake Tahoe, police and firefighters responded to a home on the 500 block of Roger Avenue around 9 a.m. Monday for a report of an unresponsive person.

Upon arrival, paramedics found two people dead, and lifesaving measures were being performed on two other people but were unsuccessful.

In total, four people died – one woman and three men, all between the ages of 30-40 years old. They have not been identified yet.

“I don’t recall four at a time in my career here in this town. It’s pretty unusual,” said South Lake Tahoe Police Chief David Stevenson, regarding to the rarity of the incident.

Chief Stevenson said two other people were also at the home and cooperating with the investigation. He said one of them was trying to perform CPR on one of the unresponsive people when first responders arrived.

Stevenson said all the people at the home knew each other and were friends.

“There’s a lot of notifications being made this afternoon. A lot of families are just going to be broken, and it’s never going to heal. It’s a big impact on everybody,” he said.

According to the city of South Lake Tahoe, substance abuse is suspected but hasn’t been confirmed at this time. People are asked to stay out of the area as police conduct their investigation.
